The English Department at Penn invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the field of contemporary poetry and poetics. We are particularly interested in candidates who are practicing poets, whose writing connects contemporary poetics to earlier periods of poetic invention, and whose work aligns well with resources in poetry/poetics at Penn (such as PennSound, Jacket2, and Kelly Writers House), reaching out to poetry communities beyond the University. We welcome applications from candidates with an established reputation as a poet and an emerging record as a scholar. PhD expected at time of appointment. The normal teaching load in our department is two courses per semester.

Applicants should submit materials online at and include a letter of application, CV, the names of three references, and a writing sample (max. 7500 words). Recommenders will be contacted by the University with instructions for submitting their letters to the website. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
