we are no longer speaking.terms in which we mightcontinue speaking include:a bundle of wool sweaters,trees recently felled –get specific they say,and who, i say, is they,they say i say, and sowe are no longer speakingin terms that reflectour disposable coffeecups, plastic bottles, andpink hair curlers, our dirtydiapers, curdled milk, andmountains of cigarettebutts, our empty graveswith all that mud piledbeside, and our rottencarrot mound, packagesand packages of blanchedalmonds we never knewwhat to do with, andour GPS device, oldflip phone, VCR, andcassette tapes, fruitflies, Pac Man T-Shirtswe barely wore, downwe stumble as our wordscatch in our throats andwe realize we’re no longerspeaking to each other,only to the virtual assistanthanging on our every pause.
